Mushroom substrate grow bag

The mushroom grow bag has been specifically developed to promote the growth of fungi under controlled conditions. This convenient product comes pre-prepared with a specially designed substrate that provides the ideal environment for mushrooms to develop fully. Each component of the included mixture contributes its own properties and characteristics to ensure constant humidity around 60–65%, the optimal level for healthy mycelium growth and mushroom fruiting.

Substrate composition

The substrate contained in the bag is a balanced mix of:

  • Rye: Provides a rich source of essential nutrients for vigorous mycelial growth.
  • Vermiculite: Offers excellent moisture retention, maintaining the humid environment necessary for mycelial development.
  • Perlite: Improves aeration of the substrate, facilitating gas exchange and preventing waterlogging.
  • Gypsum: Acts as a pH regulator and provides calcium, improving the substrate’s structure and supporting mycelial health.

This combination of components ensures constant humidity within the optimal range of 60–65%, essential for healthy mushroom development.

Bag design and materials

The bag is made of durable plastic, a material that withstands sterilization processes and allows heat sealing, ensuring a sterile and controlled environment.

Inoculation and cultivation process

The bag includes a clearly marked injection port, making it easy to inoculate the substrate with a spore syringe. It is recommended to perform this process in the cleanest possible environment, using gloves and a mask to minimize the risk of contamination. Once inoculated, the bag should be kept in a warm, dark place at around 27 °C. Within about a week, the mycelium will begin to colonize the substrate, a process that may be completed within 15 to 30 days.

Fruiting options

Once the substrate is fully colonized, there are two options for fruiting:

  1. Fruiting inside the same bag: Fruiting can be induced directly within the bag by providing the right conditions of humidity, temperature, and light.
  2. Transfer to another medium: The bag’s contents can be transferred to another container or substrate for a larger-scale cultivation.
